About us

This wonderful project will be a massive boost to the biodiversity along the 24.75 miles of the 2 canals. Stretching from Shrewsbury across Shropshire to Norbury Junction in Staffordshire.

WE'VE DONE IT!!  After a huge amount of work over a number of years the East Basin at Wappenshall is now back in water. Filled in in the 1970's it is a massive achievement that has been greatly helped by our TWINCL supporters. A big thank you to you all.  There is still so much more to do so your continued support is vitally important to us.

The next big event will be the opening of our Cafe at Wappenshall later this year 2024.  So much to look forward too.

As well as buying TWINCL tickets many of our supporters have actually joined our volunteers in one or more of our many locations in Shrewsbury, Berwick Wharf, Roddington, Telford, Newport or Norbury. If you would like to get involved with volunteering please let me know.  Any enquiries can be sent to me at [email protected].  You can also find me with a bric-a-brac stall on most Saturdays at Norbury Junction. Every penny goes to the SNCT funds.

You can visit Wappenshall on Fridays and Saturdays 10 am until 4pm.  Please come and see us, we would be more than happy to show you round. Please be advised though it is currently a building site. We have safety helmets for you should you pay us a visit.  Good shoes/boots would also be necessary, it can be very muddy.

We are very proud to be winners of the prestigious QAVS (Queens Award for Voluntary Service) given for all the time and effort put in by our many volunteers.

We still need your help to restore a Grade II listed 1835 warehouse..  The support of the public and our members using TWINCL has been truly wonderful, we can't thank you enough. If you haven't already got your tickets there is no time like the present.

This is just the first phase on this site.  Future phases will include , the rebuilding the stable block and the restoration of a 3 storey 'transhipment' warehouse. Also  the creation of a 'rolling' museum dedicated to the man our great town is named after Thomas Telford. Want to see more?

Take a virtual tour and see the warehouses and east basin before all the work on it at:

When you've seen the site linked above have a look at our facebook page to see how much it has changed

By joining TWINCL you will be helping us to provide both a cafe and meeting rooms available for the use of local people and businesses in this beautiful, tranquil and historic location.  In the future we hope to have 2 x c1936 canal boats: which we are currently restoring at Norbury Junction; in the rewatered basin where they can be used as classrooms for the local schools and exhibits for the museum.

We hope that many you managed to visit and enjoy our Canal Festival at Norbury Junction last May.  The weather was not the greatest and many of you will have missed out due to the car park being closed. we are dreadfully sorry for this but as usual the weather always dictates how these events go.

Visit our website at www.sncanal.org.uk

Ultimately our aim is the restoration of both canals joining Norbury Junction on the Shropshire Union canal to Shrewsbury via Newport and Telford providing a all the health benefits associated with canals and the great outdoors.

Thank you so much for your highly valued support and good luck in the lottery. Our supporters have already won over £8200's. Why not join them, you could be the one to win £25,000.

Yours sincerely

Alan Boney
